My love and I and our beautiful daughter took the C train down to see the enormous perfect tree at Rockefeller Center and to see the Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes. Thank goodness I married a capable woman. She guided us from the subway up to the line forming for the 5 p.m. Show and steered us through the Art Deco lobby to our seats in mid-orchestra, and the duo-organists started playing and the light show began and I felt swept away by Christmas.
As for me, I got to sing duets with Heather, which I love to do and I hit some beautiful high harmony notes on “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and Greg Brown’s song “Early,” notes that I didn’t have the day before in rehearsal. A prairie home companion / good jokes. Following is our collection of funny prairie jokes. Pretty Good Jokes by Garrison Keillor, Audio CD Barnes & Noble® from termite jumps up on the bar and asks, where is the bar tender? A penguin walked into a bar and said, "Has my father been in here today?" The bartender said, "I don't know, what does he look like?" The penguin said, "He was wearing a tuxedo." Regular musicians in Guy's All-Star Shoe Band include Richard Dworsky, a composer who appeared weekly as pianist, bandleader, and music director, Gary Raynor on bass and bass guitar, Peter Johnson on percussion, Jevetta Steele on vocals, and Andy Stein on violin, tenor and bass saxophones, and vocals.
News from Lake Wobegon
In my youth, when the elderly couldn’t do the yardwork, they were packed off to a little apartment and when they couldn’t climb the stairs they went to Happy Acres to die of boredom. My mother lived to the grand old age of 97, which gave me time to try to make up for all the grief I’d caused her. After the two-hour twenty-minute show, the cast and crew stood backstage congratulating each other.
“The free, creative, loving people who shine so brightly in my memory of studios and coffee shops have become models for a huge section of the population. If they in turn can just stay alive in the face of power and terror, they may become the decisive section.” –Kenneth Rexroth, born on this day in 1905. I stood in line at a coffee shop that smelled of fresh pine boughs and the tall dark-haired woman ahead of me ordered a venti mocha latte with 2%, and the smell of chocolate and pine and then an orange she bought and started to peel it and that was enough. Oranges were essential to our Christmases.

They all screamed and went down to the deep end where the water was up to their necks.nOne of the women shouted, "We're not coming out until you leave!" The old man said, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked. I came here to feed the alligator." The only time you hear "Jesus Christ" in a Unitarian church is when someone falls down the stairs. I was on the 18th green yesterday and I hooked the ball onto the highway right through the window of a school bus which swerved into a ditch and burst into flames. Obama and Jintao walk into a bar; A patron says to the bartender "That's Barack! Who's with him?" Bartender replies "Yes." The only way I can communicate with my kids is by using Facebook.

One advantage for us Christians of living in New York is that we’re a small minority just like in early A.D. Living among Romans and Turks so we can’t lord it over people. If schools avoid using the word “Christmas,” we understand. Children walk past, cursing like truckers. In places where Christians form a powerful majority, they can bully and persecute with great enthusiasm, even though our Savior instructed us in kindness and charity.

And I haven’t yet found a Christmas gift for the love of my life. I wrote her a sonnet one Christmas years ago and she was touched by that but now I am even more stunned by her beauty and brilliance and don’t think I could capture that in a poem. And then yesterday a miracle occurred, not on 34th Street but on 50th, at Radio City Music Hall.

In 1989, Keillor returned to radio with The American Radio Company of the Air (renamed Garrison Keillor's American Radio Company in its second season), broadcast originally from the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The new program featured a broadly similar format to A Prairie Home Companion, with sketches and musical guests reflecting a more New York sensibility, rather than the country and folk music predominant in APHC. Also, while Keillor sang and delivered a regular monologue on American Radio Company, Lake Wobegon was initially downplayed, as he felt it was "cruel" to talk to a Brooklyn audience about life in a small town. During this period, Keillor revived the full APHC format only for "annual farewell performances." In the fall of 1992, Keillor returned to the Fitzgerald Theater with ARC for the majority of the season, with Lake Wobegon and other APHC elements gradually but unmistakably returning to prominence. I come to Thanksgiving in a cheerful mood, counting the blessings, starting with the new pig valve Dr. Dearani’s team sewed into my heart three months ago, which enables me to type this sentence and saves some poor soul from eulogizing me and getting it all wrong.
My love sat on my lap and we looked at our tree and she said, “I love you so much” . It’s about cheerfulness, dear friends. God bless your house and all those whom you love.
Keillor and the ensemble performed comedy skits. Notable skits and characters often recur, such as the satirical "Guy Noir, Private Eye", which parodied film noir and radio dramas. Guy Noir's popularity was such that the first few notes of the theme or the first lines of the announcer's introduction ("A dark night in a city that knows how to keep its secrets ...") often drew applause and cheers from the audience. Also regularly featured were the adventures of Dusty and Lefty, "The Lives of the Cowboys". A Prairie Home Companion began national distribution in May 1980.
She and her partner Maria whom she met in Trigonometry and who is Phi Beta Kappa from Pakistan are engaged to marry in June and plan to start a family when they move to Cambridge to start grad school.” Probably I am all wrong about this. Probably I am simply defensive about my own slovenly habits. Probably I am envious, having never excelled in anything other than humility. I hit a brick wall in lower algebra and never got to trig. And now I’ve brought home a pitiful misshapen Christmas tree for which I paid $90.
When the Shoe Band had a horn section, Keillor referred to them as the Shoe Horns. The jingle is usually sung after a bombastic, sound-effect-enhanced tale of woe, and is immediately followed by Keillor asking, "Wouldn't this be a great time for a piece of rhubarb pie? Yes, nothing gets the taste of shame and humiliation out of your mouth quite like Bebop-A-Reebop Rhubarb Pie." The show creates advertisements for fictional products, performed in the style of live old-time radio commercials.
Thile's band Punch Brothers performed on the February 7 show. Thile was named permanent host of the show in late June 2015, and took over as permanent host on October 15, 2016. As a Minnesotan, I’m aware that my state is the No. 1 producer of turkeys, an ugly ill-tempered bird with a sharp beak and a single-digit IQ and no redeeming qualities except the meat.

I picked up COVID last week sitting in an airport lounge, writing, and I pulled my mask down because my masked breath fogged my glasses, and now I’m holed up in a cheap hotel in Fort Lauderdale, waiting for the Paxlovid to kick in. She puts her arms around me and whispers things that nobody else whispers. Sometimes TSA agents feel up my inner thighs but intimacy with a guy with a badge and blue rubber gloves doesn’t interest me.

A Prairie Home Companion is a weekly radio variety show created and hosted by Garrison Keillor that aired live from 1974 to 2016. In 2016, musician Chris Thile took over as host, and the successor show was eventually renamed Live from Here and ran until 2020.
The second episode featured the first performance on the show by Butch Thompson, who became house pianist. Thompson stayed with the program until 1986 and frequently performed on the show until its 2016 conclusion. I have given up suffering in my old age. I don’t hang out with boring people or conspiracy hobbyists or people who use obscenities as punctuation. I don’t pay a large sum of money to be crammed into a space designed for children.
